HSV had traveled to Sandhausen with 26 players, and there is ultimately only room for 20 players in the matchday squad for the game at SVS.

Coach Daniel Thioune had to remove six players from the squad. A prominent name from the six players removed from the squad is Gideon Jung.

The other five players who did not make it into the squad for the Sandhausen game are the two goalkeepers Leo Oppermann and Tom Mickel and the youngsters Jonas David, Moritz Kwarteng, and Ogechika Heil. Toni Leistner is part of the HSV squad for the first time since January.

Gideon Jung has played 18 games for Hamburger SV in the German Bundesliga 2 this season.
