Thomas Partey partners Rice in midfield as Eddie Nketiah captains Arsenal to win Emirates Cup

Arsenal have beaten French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco to lift the 2023 Emirates Cup ahead of the 2023/24 football season.

In the game played on Wednesday, August 2, Black Stars midfield enforcer Thomas Partey started in midfield alongside summer signing Declan Rice.

With Martin Odegaard missing out on a starting role today, striker Eddie Nketiah who led the lines did so as captain of the Gunners.

The visitors from France had a bright start to the game and led by a goal to nil in the 31st minute when Youssouf Fofana got his name on the scoresheet.

Fortunately, for Arsenal, the team had enough quality to get back into the game.

A strike from Ghana Black Stars target Eddie Nketiah restored parity for the Londoners in the 43rd minute.

Despite the improved performance of the two teams, neither side could get the winning goal.

When it came down to penalties, Arsenal had the men and secured a 5-4 shootout victory to lift the Emirates Cup for the seventh time.

Thomas Partey and Eddie Nketiah will both be expected to be key for the Gunners in the upcoming season.
