Ghanaian international Thomas Partey lasted the entire duration for Atletico Madrid on Thursday night when they beat FC Barcelona 3-2 in the Spanish Super Cup.

Unlike the previous years, this year’s edition of the cup competition is being staged in Saudi Arabia and is featuring the four top clubs from the past season.

Real Madrid and Valencia kicked it off on Wednesday night with the former eventually emerging as 3-1 winners at the end of the 90 minutes.

Facing off on Thursday to fight for the last available slot in the final, Atletico Madrid exhibited enviable resilience to beat Barcelona 3-2 at the King Abdullah Sports City.

Following a goalless first half, captain for the Rojiblancos, Koke shot his side into the lead just a minute into the second half. Later in the game, Lionel Messi scored to restore parity for his side before Antoine Griezmann equalized to give the Catalans the lead for the first time.

Two late goals from Alvaro Morata and Angel Correa, however, undid the efforts of Barcelona as Atletico cruised to the finals with what will be a memorable victory.

Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey was brilliant in the game and fought hard for his team in the middle of the park. Due to his outstanding contributions, he was left on the pitch for the full duration of the game.

The Black Stars asset is now in contention for another starting role for his side this weekend when they take on city rivals Real Madrid in the finals of the Spanish Super Cup.
