Top football administrators’ express divergent views over Phar Rangers 5-year ban

Astute football administrators in the country have expressed their views on Ghana Football Association’s decision to ban Division One Club, Phar Rangers five-years from football.

The GFA Disciplinary Committee on June 30, 2021 handed Phar Rangers punishment following their decision to withdraw from all GFA organized competitions.

Despite rescinding their decision along the line, the Disciplinary Committee stated that the club violated the rules and regulations of the Association.

However, the DC inflicted a five-year ban on the club, Directors and Shareholders which includes Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah. They also ruled that players of the club are free agents.

Reacting to the sanctions by the FA, Kofi Manu ‘Blue Boy’ insisted the ruling by the FA is purely witch-haunting.

"The ruling of the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA against Phar Rangers is hollow, bogus and nothing short of witch-hunting." He told Opemsuo FM.

Also, the former GFA Vice President George Afriyie indicated that the ban is wrong and bad, saying Kurt Okraku wouldn’t have been the President of the FA if they had banned the directors and stakeholders of Dreams FC when they were banned.

“The GFA ruling on Phar Rangers is WRONG and BAD. Okraku Kurt wouldn't have been an FA President if the GFA had banned the Board of Directors and the Shareholders of Dreams FC when they were banned” He told Pure FM.

“I have told Phar Rangers to appeal the Disciplinary Committee decision and I strongly believe that the decision would be overturned. How can you ban a shareholder without a charge?

Naa Odorfoley Nortey, who served on the Normalization Committee on the back of the number 12 documentary also raised red flag against the ruling.

According to her, the punishment is too harsh and said Phar Rangers could only be expelled from Ghana Football by congress, hence the GFA should respect themselves.

She added that, the only sanction for misconduct is the deduction of points and a fine of about thousand Ghana cedis.

On the other hand, the former Division League Board Chairman Lawyer Ntow Fianko said the FA decision to ban Phar Rangers is in the right direction.

“The ban has come and it’s right because the club officially wrote to withdraw from all FA Competition so their second letter to rescind their decision was if no use.” He said.

“The Disciplinary Committee is just a servant of the law; they are not the law makers so the just act according to what the law state. And I will urged the players to file a petition at the FA for the Player Status Committee to declare them as free agent.” - He added.

The former football agent has been given a three-day ultimatum to appeal the decision.
