Palmeiras won the Copa Libertadores after overcoming Flamengo in an all-Brazilian final at Montevideo's Estadio Centenario on Saturday.

Palmeiras seized the lead after just five minutes, kicking off the final. Raphael Veiga arrived late into the area after a well-worked play down the right, and he tucked it away into the bottom corner for 1-0.

When Filipe Luis went off injured in the first half, Flamengo were forced to make a first-half substitute, with Renê replacing him.

Rony's curling effort into the top corner almost doubled Palmeiras' advantage early in the second half, but Flamengo goalkeeper Diego Alves made a superb stop to keep it out.

Flamengo equalized in the 72nd minute, when Gabigol scored at the near post after Giorgian de Arrascaeta slid him through.

Palmeiras took the lead again five minutes into the extra period when Deyverson intercepted Andreas Pereira and ran through to score.

Palmeiras has won the South American championship for the third time in their history, and they have lifted the trophy for the second time this calendar year, defeating Santos in the postponed 2020 final in January.
