Tottenham 3-2 West Ham: Late Show From Harry Kane Pulls Spurs From Jaws of Defeat

Published on: 18 November 2016

Spurs pulled off a stunning comeback to beat London rivals West Ham 3-2 at White Hart Lane on Saturday, giving themselves a huge confidence ahead of their immense clash with Chelsea next weekend.

Spurs, starting the match still unbeaten this whole season, hadn't won a game in their last seven. Fortunately, Mauricio Pochettinho had luxury of calling on Harry Kane yet again, with the striker returning from injury ahead of the international break.

20-year-old midfielderHarry Winks was given his first start by the manager, playing on the right side of the midfield while Dele Alli started on the bench.

Slaven Bilic switched his goalkeeper for the match, going with Darren Randolph, the 29-year-old brought in from Birmingham last season. With the team hovering just above the relegation zone, the manager set up a very attacking side, starting with three at the back.

Christian Eriksen appeared to break the deadlock inside six minutes after catching a great ball over the top from Eric Dier to smash it in, but the flag was raised right away, and Eriksen put up no argument.

That would all be solved in the 24th minute, however, but the goal would go the Hammers' way. Michail Antonio would score his sixth goal of the season with yet another header, getting on the end of Reid'swhipped ball after it was headed into, and bounced off,the crossbar byCheikhou Kouyate.

All of Antonio's goals this season have come from headers.

The match would carry on into halftime with the same scoreline, leaving Pochettino with quite the speech to make in the dressing room.

Whatever he said must have worked, though, because Winks came up with the goods just five minutes into the second period, blasting Vincent Janssen's saved shot into the back of the net to equalise at 1-1.

Danny Rose earned himself a yellow card for a foul on Antonio around 62 minutes into the match. He will miss the derby against Chelsea as a result, with that being his fifth yellow card

The Hammers moved back in front on 68 minutes through Manuel Lanzini's penalty won by Winston Reid who went down in the box following some grappling from Janssen.

Tottenham decided that they weren't ready to lose their unbeaten streak late on. Kane tied the scores in the 89th minute by hitting in a ball parried into his path by Randolph after a low cross from substitute Son Heung-Min flashed across the box.

The England striker made it 3-2 just moments later burying a penalty after Son was brought down in the box byHavard Nordtveit, who caught the Korean's boot with a tackle.

Reid would get himself sent off, having received a second yellow in injury time for a rather pointless tackle on Kane. This comes just after the defender returned from a prior suspension.

Spurs, meanwhile, were able to hold on to their hard-earned slim lead to claim their first win in eight games, and move to within three points off the top of the table.
