Tottenham Boss Mauricio Pochettino Confirms New Arrival in Club's Scouting Department

Published on: 08 February 2017

Tottenham have confirmed that they have appointed Steve Mitchen as their new chief scout for a second stint at the club, as perDaily Mail.

The talented scout, who alerted Liverpool about Luis Suarez, was on Spurs' books during Harry Redknapp's reign and had a huge hand in the club's capture of Luka Modric in 2008.

Daniel Levy moved personally to acquire the transfer specialist while Spurs' recruitment department undergoes a revamp.

Head of recruitment Paul Mitchell is currently serving his notice period after deciding to part ways with the club, while Ian Broomfield, a well respected chief scout, left north London last month.

It's true about Steve Hitchen, Pochettino said on Thursday, as quoted by the Ham and High. It's a different position [to Paul Mitchell] but I can confirm he's been working from Monday.

Hitchen's most recent role in the footballing world was as head of recruitment at Championship side, Derby County. He worked under Nigel Pearson, but decided to leave his role the same time as the manager.

It is understood that his contract has been finalised and he will replace Broomfield as Tottenham's chief scout, while the club are currently on the lookout for someone to serve in Mitchell's place.

Spurs' recruitment strategy has come under scrutiny in the past, particularly with the poor investment of Gareth Bale's world record transfer fee. The likes of Paulinho, who has departed for China, and Erik Lamela never really made the cut.

However, the signings of Christian Eriksen, Moussa Dembele, Dele Alli and Victor Wanyama highlights the positive side of their transfer activity, with the club firmly poised for an assault on the top four this season as they sit in second with 50 points.

Let's just not mention Vincent Janssen, yeah?
