Tottenham Identify Everton Midfielder Ross Barkley as Top Summer Transfer Target

Tottenham will make Everton midfielder Ross Barkley their top transfer target this summer, according tothe Mirror.

The 23-year-old has previously been linked with a move to White Hart Lane, but performances in recent weeks have seen him linked with Spurs again. Barkley has scored once and added three assists in his past five Premier League games, coinciding with Everton's good form in the past few weeks.

Barkley has re-established himself in Everton's starting line-up having previously been dropped by manager Ronald Koeman. However, the former Southampton boss is still unsure what the England international's best position is, despite seeing some of the youngster's best form this season.

The fee could reach up to £30m for a player who has promised much since breaking through the ranks at Goodison Park. Should the transfer go ahead, Barkley would battle with Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli for a spot in behind striker Ross Barkley, a battle which may prove incredibly difficult for the midfielder.

Spurs still lack quality depth in attacking midfield areas, with a notable absence of options as central attacking midfielders after Eriksen and Alli. The club haveSon Heung-min,although the winger has mainly been deployed out wide and as a substitute, while the future of Moussa Sissoko is also in doubt.

The France international had been linked with a move to Everton on transfer deadline day last summer but instead sealed a move to Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham. He has failed to assert himself in Spurs' team, and could be offered to Everton in a player exchange deal for Barkley.
