Tottenham manager Pochettino confirms Winks\' England doubt

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Harry Winks is a doubt for England's upcoming friendlies against Germany and Brazil following Spurs 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League this weekend.

Winks picked up an ankle injury during the first half of the game against the Eagles and had to be replaced during the break by Mousa Dembele.

Pochettino said: "He twisted his ankle. It's a little bit painful.

"We must assess him with our medical staff and with the national team medical staff too. He's so excited to play for the national team. I don't know (if he can play). It's about him and both (teams of) medical staff."

This will be a major blow to Winks given that he is hoping to try and secure a place in the England squad ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

It will also reduce the options that Gareth Southgate will have in midfield given that Dele Alli has also had to pull out.
