Tottenham Star Claims His Career Would Have Failed Had He Joined Premier League Rivals as a Teen

As reported by theStandard,Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has said he would've most likely have failed to make the grade as a top playerhad he joined Chelsea as a teenager.

Had he chosen Chelsea instead of continuing at Ajax, free-kick specialistEriken claimshe would havehad more chance offailing than succeeding at the West London club.

"If I had chosen Chelsea, then my situation today would be completely different, I'm sure,"explained Eriksen. "You never say never, because I would have been 100 percent into it, if I had chosen it. I just felt that there was more chance to fail than succeed."

Other clubs such as Barcelona and AC Milan were all interested in the Dane. However it was Tottenham, three years later, who secured his signature in summer 2013.

It took £11m for Tottenham to sign the youngster from Ajax. Eriksen was one of seven players Tottenham bought that summer with the £83m they received from the sale of Welsh winger Gareth Bale.

Eriksen's comments come two weeks before his Spurs side face Antonio Conte'shigh-flying Chelsea in one of the most anticipated games of the Premier League campaign so far.

The clash will see the two face off for the first time since the 'Battle of the Bridge' that took place in May, last season.

It was Eden Hazard that spoilt Spurs' day then, scoring a dramatic late equaliser in a 2-2 draw. The goal had greater significance because itconfirmed Leicester City's remarkable Premier League title.

However it was the disciplineof both teams that resulted in the game being remembered for all the wrong reasons.

Fines and suspensions were handed to both teams following the game. Chelsea have a new look under their Italian manager, but Spurs' antics fromlast year won't be forgotten.

Eriksen's comments won't be ignored by Chelsea either, and it'll be interesting to see how Conte's men reactwhen the teams meet shortly.
