Despite a disappointing start to the Serie A season, Roma icon Francesco Totti is urging supporters to get behind his summer signings and to not hit out and criticise the Spaniard.

Radja Nainggolan and Alisson Becker are the latest big names to depart the Eternal City, paving the way for an influx of youngsters, but Totti says that the Roma squad can still compete.

“Monchi planned the transfer market in a certain way,” Totti explained.

“He sold great players and signed great players as well as some youngsters who can do well.

“If you have 16 internationals in a squad of 25 then it means the team is good.”

The ex-No.10 added that getting on the back of Monchi serves no purpose and that supporters should get behind the team.

“Judging Monchi, saying that he is a bastard or that he does not know how to do his job, saying he is wrong, they are all useless words,” the Italian added.
