Turkey: Caleb Ekuban's goal sends Genclerbirligi to relegation

Published on: 17 May 2021

Trabzonspor striker, Caleb Ekuban, netted his 10th league goal of the campaign as his side managed to record a victory over Genclerbirligi, effectively relegation them to the second tier.

The 27-year-old opened the scoring for Trabzonspor with a smart finish in the 45th minute. Genclerbirligi came back strong in the second half and were later rewarded via Floyd Ayite's goal in the 52nd minute.

But, Trabzonspor proved too strong for their opponents as it was shown in Benik Afobe's strike in the 87th minute. Trabzonspor finished the season in fourth place with 71 points whilst Genclerbirligi suffered relegation with 38 points.

Ekuban has been fantastic for his team this season, netting 10 goals and adding four assists in 32 league appearances. His performances make a strong case for an opportunity to lead the line for the Black Stars in the near future.

His current contract is set to end in June 2022 which means he has at least another season in Trabzonspor to make a further impact.
