United Legend Criticises Performances of Anthony Martial and Urges Him to Work Harder in Games

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has blasted Anthony Martial for his performances this season, urging him to work harder and get back to the form he showed last year in the league.

The Frenchman finished the 2015/16 campaign as the club's leading goal-scorer with 17 strikes, but has only managed two so far this term, and according to theMetro, Neville has suggested that Martial has gone under the radar and needs to prove he is worth the £55m price tag.

"There's someone going under the radar," said Neville.

"They signed a player 18 months ago for £55m and to be honest in the last six, seven, eight months he's not delivered.

"(Jose) Mourinho said he's trained well these past few weeks but he now needs to start performing on the pitch because at £55m, you think about the scrutiny players come under at this club, Martial has gone under the radar and needs to start delivering.

"Some of the performances have been nowhere near good enough. His work rate's not good enough as far as I can see."

The 20-year-old signed from Monaco at the beginning of last season, and burst onto the scene with a debut goal against Liverpool, and since then has made 61 appearances for the club, scoring 19 goals.

However, with the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the rise of teenage sensation Marcus Rashford, it is yet to be seen whether Martial will fit in to Mourinho's system at United, and will have to work harder should he wish to keep his position out on the flanks.
