Update: THREE Premier League clubs to be relegated at the end of the 2019/2020 season instead of FIVE

Due to a decision taken by Congress today, only three clubs will be relegated at the end of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season instead of the initial five.

Ahead of the start of the new season, the GFA at the end of an Extraordinary Congress to elect a new president and an Executive Council had voted to have an 18-club league instead of the usual 16.

This was a move adopted to reinstate Accra Great Olympics as well as King Faisal into the league to bring their longstanding problem with the old GFA administration to a close.

At a Congress session at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence at Prampram today, members have backed the 18-club league competition and have approved that it should be maintained for subsequent league seasons.

What that means is that the plan to have five clubs relegated at the end of the 2019/2020 season to revert back to the 16-club league competition has now been aborted. Instead, 3 clubs will be relegated while 3 clubs from the Division One League will be promoted.
