Valverde plays down unbeaten run

Published on: 18 June 2018

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde is focused on winning the La Liga title and is not too bothered if they lose their unbeaten record.

Barca have won 25 and drawn seven of their 32 league games so far this season and are currently 11 points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid and 15 ahead of Real Madrid in third.

They visit Celta Vigo on Tuesday and can be backed at 1/1 to win the match and 16/1 to ease to a 3-0 victory.

Valverde's team crashed out of the Champions League to Roma last week, despite winning the first leg of their quarter-final 4-1, and face Sevilla on Saturday in the Copa del Rey final. Barcelona can be backed at 4/9 to beat Sevilla.

"Our main objective is to win the league," Valverde said. "It would be very nice to do it without losing a game but we know it is so difficult that nobody has ever done it.

"It's a chance for us but if we are more worried about going undefeated than winning the league then that is not good.

"It is a motivation, of course, but winning two titles is a motivation. Right now we have not won anything, but on Tuesday we can take a step forward.

"Getting knocked out in Europe or losing league and cup games, I know what this means. We got knocked out of the Champions League. If the second-placed team was a point behind us maybe people would care more about the league."
