VENEZIA: DOMEN ČRNIGOJ EXTENDS CONTRACT

Published on: 04 November 2021

Venezia FC is pleased to announce that Slovenia international midfielder Domen Črnigoj has signed a contract extension through the 2024/25 season.

Črnigoj, 25, began his career at Slovenian PrvaLiga side FC Koper and then spent five seasons at Swiss Super League side Lugano before joining Venezia on a free transfer in August 2020. As he had been out of contract for the previous half-season, Črnigoj wasn’t fully match fit when the 2020/21 season began, but once he rounded into form, he became a force in midfield, with his relentlessness in recovering the ball and his hard-charging runs up the pitch. Črnigoj would make 30 appearances (12 starts) with three goals during the Serie B regular season and start four out of five Serie B promotion playoff matches, including both legs of the finals, to help Venezia earn their historic promotion to Serie A.

In the 2021/22 Serie A season, Črnigoj has made 10 appearances (six starts) through Giornata 11.

At international level, Črnigoj has earned 21 caps for Slovenia, and this year has played in six of eight matches in qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

"I am very happy to have renewed my contract," said Črnigoj. "I came here to live the dream of Serie A and this dream has come true. Now, my goal is to stay here as long as possible, in a wonderful city with wonderful fans, and keep this dream alive by helping this team, which is like a family for me, to reach salvation."
