Canadian international of Ghanaian descent, Richie Laryea has signed a contract extension deal with Major League (MLS) outfit Toronto FC.

The midfielder who can also play as a defender was drafted by Orlando City SC in the first round (7th overall) of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Akron.

He played for the club between 2016 and 2018 before he was signed by Toronto FC on the back of an impressive trial session in 2019.

In the last MLS season, Richie Laryea played mostly as a defender and managed to make as many as 28 appearances.

Having finished the campaign with high-rating, he has been awarded a contract extension by officials of the club.

“Richie has been terrific since he joined us. He played a valuable role, both for TFC, and the Canadian Men’s National Team last year.

“Off the field, Richie’s character and personality is tremendous. He earned this new contract in many ways, and we are excited for he, his family, and what he will bring to TFC moving forward”, a statement from Toronto FC General Manager Ali Curtis said after the player signed the new deal.

The length and monetary aspects have not been revealed but checks have uncovered that the extension is for not less than 2 years.
