Vice President for the Republic of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has celebrated Hearts of Oak after emerging as 2020/21 Ghana Premier League champions.

The Phobians were declared champions following Asante Kotoko's 2-1 defeat to Bechem United.

Hearts of Oak, however, shared spoils with Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday in their matchday 33 games which ended 1-1.

The Phobians have opened a 4-point lead at the summit of the league table with a game left to wind up the season.

Hearts have now moved to 61 points with second-placed Kotoko on 57 while there is only one round of games left to end the Premier League season.

The former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana has also congratulated lower-tier side Bibiani Gold Stars on their promotion to the Ghana Premier League next season.

He used his official Facebook Page to send out his congratulatory message to the club and also wished clubs in Zone One and Three well.

Hearts of Oak, winners of the 2000 CAF Champions League and 2004 CAF Confederation Cup, have won their first major title since 2009 and are still in contention to annex the MTN FA Cup title in a season that could see them clinch double.

The Rainbow Club will now represent the country in the 2021/22 Caf Champions League.
