Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has consoled the wife, children, and family of the late Christian Atsu.

The body of the late winger was received by the Government of Ghana, GFA, and the Twasam family at the Kotoka International Airport yesterday evening

Atsu, who played 65 times for Ghana, scoring nine goals, enjoyed a successful career at several clubs, including Everton, Chelsea, Newcastle in England, and Porto.

“It is a very sad day to receive the mortal remains of our brother, our son, our husband, our uncle. The tragedy that occurred about a week ago is one that is devastating and we anxiously and nervously prayed that our brother Christian Atsu will be found alive," Dr. Bawumia said at the brief event at the airport as monitored by Footballghana.com

"We hoped against hope every day that passed we prayed and prayed but alas when he was found he was no more. I will like to take this opportunity on behalf of the President and the Government to extend our sincere condolences to the Twasam family, Atsu’s twin sister, and his brother who accompanied him from Turkey home. I will like to extend my condolences to all of them and the entire family for this deep loss,”
