Ghana international, Mohammed Kudus has opened up on why he wore a shirt with the inscription ‘RIP Atsu’ under his Ajax jersey during the match against Sparta Rotterdam.

According to the Black Stars poster boy, he did so because it was important to pay tribute to his fallen compatriot, Christian Atsu.

In his post-match interview after the game against Sparta Rotterdam, Mohammed Kudus said he was close to Atsu but wants to send out his condolences to the families of all the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

“Atsu is the one close to me. I dedicated that goal to him and everyone who had families and all the people involved in the Turkey earthquake,” Mohammed Kudus said.

Meanwhile, the player also praised referee Pol van Boekel for his decision not to book him after celebrating with his shirt off.

"The referee told me it's not allowed [shirt removal] but he understands because this is a bigger situation than football,” Mohammed Kudus said.

The youngster scored for Ajax on Sunday to help his team to secure a massive 4-0 win against Sparta Rotterdam.
