VIDEO: Hearts of Oak beat Ashanti Gold to win domestic double

Hearts of Oak defeated Ashanti Gold SC on penalties in the MTN FA Cup final to complete a domestic double on Sunday.

After a goalless draw in both regulation time and extra time, the game went into a shoot-out where the Phobians won 8-7 to clinch the trophy they last won in 2000 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians win the double for the first time in 21-year-olds, having beaten their arch-rivals Asante Kotoko to the Ghana Premier League title.

Despite the numerous chances both teams had, they were unable to find the back of the net in 120 minutes of action.

In the penalty shoot-out, Amos Addai and David Abagna (AshGold) and Caleb Amankwah and Barnieh (Hearts) missed their efforts in the first five of kicks for each team.

When Benjamin Afutu missed Hearts’ 10th penalty kick, Seth Osei spurned the chance to win it for AshGold as he failed to convert what would have clinched the cup for his side.

The Miners missed their spot-kick again courtesy Mensah after goalkeeper Richard Attah had earlier scored the corresponding take for Hearts.
