An 83rd minute strike from Bongokuhle Hlongwane earned South Africa a 1 - 0 victory over Ghana in Johannesburg on Monday.
The Black Stars played as guest to South Africa at the FNB Stadium.
The Black Stars were very much unlucky and uninspiring in the game as they failed to create any meaningful chance in the game.
Ghana came into this game without 7 players who featured in their first group game against Ethiopia.
The Bafana Bafana side now top group G following their victory over the Black Stars after drawing with Zimbabwe in their first game.
After missing the 2018 event in Russia, Ghana wants on return to the World Cup but this defeat seems to have made things difficult.
Prior to this game, Ghana had not lost to the South Africans since 2015.
