Dutch-born Ghanaian forward Ernest Poku scored late to rescue Jong AZ Alkmaar from defeat against TOP Oss in their match day 36 game on Tuesday evening in the Dutch Eerste Divisie.
Jong AZ dominated the first several minutes of the game. Iman Griffith had a golden chance within a minute, but the skipper fired wide.
Zico Buurmeester took the ball on the wing two minutes later, but his attempt too flew wide. Fedde de Jong and Mexx Meerdink's shots were easy targets for goalkeeper Thijs Jansen. Daniel Deen, on the other hand, was alert to deal with an effort by Bradley van Hoeven.
TOP Oss grabbed the lead after half an hour of play. In the 30th minute, a low cross from Illunga Pata went unnoticed and ended up in the goal. Young AZ was unable to repair the damage before the break.
The second half was less intense as the first half. With fifteen minutes left on the clock, Griffith came very close to equalizing, but his effort hit the post.
In the 88th minute substitute Ernest Poku rescued his side from defeat. The attacker passed his man and shot in for the late equalizer.
