An early goal from Odion Ighalo was enough to steer the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a 1-0 victory over the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on Wednesday night to hand them bronze at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The two giants of Africa football locked horns at the Al Salam Stadium yesterday to battle for a third-place finish after narrowly missing out on reaching the finals.

Tunisia who has been sloppy for most parts of the tournament was exposed just two minutes into the match after goalkeeper Moez Ben Cherifia collided with his defender Yassine Meriah to hand Ighalo a glorious opportunity to pounce on.

The tournament’s top goalscorer took advantage and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

That goal proved to be the decider at the end of the 90 minutes even though the Tunisians upped their game and came close to scoring on several occasions in the second half.
