Ghana’s Jeffrey Schlupp showcased readiness for the new season as he scored a goal for Crystal Palace in a pre-season friendly against French side Olympique Lyonnais on Saturday.
In a well-contested match, it was Schlupp who made an impact early on. In the 14th minute, a free-kick from Eberechi Eze found Schlupp, who expertly evaded the Lyon defense and headed the ball past goalkeeper Anthony Lopes to give Crystal Palace an early lead.
The former Leicester City midfielder continued to be a threat throughout the game.
In the 31st minute, Schlupp had another opportunity to extend Palace's lead when Nathaniel Clyne made a surging run down the left flank and delivered a precise cross to Schlupp at the edge of the box. However, his shot was directed straight at Lopes, denying him a second goal.
After the halftime break, Crystal Palace's Osdonne Edouard capitalized on a defensive error from Lyon to extend the Eagles' lead further.
Ghanaian compatriot Jordan Ayew also featured in the game.
