Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has granted one of the club's fans his dying wish by paying him a visit at his residence in Chester.

David Burns, a 74-year-old cancer patient who is the father of five and has 14 grandchildren, has been told by doctors that there is nothing more that they can do for his throat cancer.

His family appealed to City to do something for Burns after he revealed that his dying wish was to meet some of their players in person.

The Belgian defender was the one who made 90-mile round trip to make the dying man's wish come true, and stayed over an hour sat on the sofa chatting about football and City history. He also presented Burns with a signed shirt and posed for a photo with the stunned family.

It was unbelievable," Burns' 58-year-old wife Christine told theManchester Evening News.

His face when he first realised who it was just amazing. He couldn't believe it.

He said ˜Hello David' and sat down next to him. They were chatting for ages.He was asking who his favourite City players were from his youth and was teaching Vinnie about some of them.

He was such a nice guy, so lovely.I was in tears seeing them together as I knew how much it meant to him.

Burns was diagnosed with throat cancer three years ago, and was told last month that he had more tumours in his throat and voice box. Unfortunately, doctors said that the cancer was too aggressive to receive any further treatment.

The sad news spurred his children, whom he went to City games with, to launch an appeal which was shared thousands of times on social media and also published by M.E.N.

He'd told us this would be his dream before he passed, Christine went on to state. We said we'd do everything we could but I think deep down we didn't think it would be possible.

So we just want to thank everyone that shared the post, the M.E.N for telling our story and Vincent and the club for making his dream a reality.

It's been a really emotional day and one we'll remember forever.
