Fifa General Coordinator Anthony Baffoe has called for water breaks in the Ghana Premier League.

The former Black Stars defender and FIFA General Coordinator Anthony Baffoe has called on match officials to introduce water breaks in local league matches with the current rise in temperature.

Considering the afternoon kick off for matches in Ghana, Baffoe explained that temperatures during those periods could negetively affect players hence the need for water break since it was first introduced at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil where the temperature had risen above the normal level.

“It is always vital to play our game considering the nature of our weather. It is very important. Now that our temperature sometimes goes beyond 32°C, it is important we introduce that. “I have personally written to the FA, the PLB and GHALCA on the importance of introducing water breaks. “It is an important issue that must be addressed with all seriousness since it involves the lives of the players."

The current rise in temperature in the country has been a major issue of concern to many footballers who have complained about the excessive heat during league matches that usually kick off around 15:00 GMT.
