Watford boss Silva blames Gomes injury for Everton loss

Watford manager Marco Silva has blamed his sides 3-2 Premier League loss against Everton on Sunday as being due to the absence of first choice goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.

Gomes had to leave the field after just making a superb double save to keep the Hornets 1-0 up during the second half and was replaced by Orestis Karnezis who endured a nightmare debut.

Goals from Richarlison and Christian Kabasele gave Watford a 2-0 win during the second half and looked to have sealed victory for them. The Toffees however managed to draw equal and win through goals from Oumar Niasse, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Leighton Baines with Karnezis' positioning being poor during the first two goals.

"We played in the same way as usual, we controlled the game until 2-1, even after our second goal," Silva said.

"We had them under control. But then, we gave one chance to the Everton players who started to believe again.

"Then we started to become uncomfortable, and when we lost the ball for the corner for the 2nd and the 3rd, the slip, everything happened with our team.

"The injury to Gomes was an important moment and it gave the chance to them."
