Watford Forward Mauro Zarate Flies to Spain to Discuss Surgery on Injured Knee

Watford forward Mauro Zarate has flown to Spain to discuss surgery options with the club's knee specialist, according to a report on the Hornets'official website.


The 29-year-old Argentinian suffered an injury to hisanterior cruciate ligament and also damaged the medical collateral ligament in his right knee during a match against West Ham on Saturday.

Zarate was first assessed at a hospital, but on Wednesday flew to Barcelona to visitDr Roman Cugat along with medical director Luca Gatteschi.


"We are going to have an assessment with Dr Cugat," Gatteschi said. "We will then decide the best way in terms of surgery."


Cugat was the one who performed surgeryon Roberto Pereyra followingdamage tothe meniscus in his left knee.

"Zarate's injury is different," the medical director added."It is not a bad injury but it is a big injury.


"Zarate will come back stronger.There is no problem with that. It is important he has a very good surgery and then a very accurate recovery. It takes time.


He needs to have full function and a full recovery of the knee. We need to respect the time for a full recovery and not have any further risk to the knee."

Speaking onPereyra, who is now recoveringat Udinese,Gatteschi revealed that the winger could be back with the club as early as next week.


"His rehab is going very well," he claimed. "I speak every week with people at Udinese and Pereyra is doing good. He will come here or I will go there next week."
