Watford Manager Walter Mazzarri Claims His Side Deserved a Point After 1-0 Stoke Loss

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri has claimed his side deserved a draw after their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Stoke City on Sunday.


A Heurelho Gomes own goal gifted Stoke the win, with the likes of Troy Deeney, Etienne Capoue and Nordin Amrabat unable to break down a resolute Stoke side.


Speaking toSky Sportsafter the game, Mazzarri claimed his side merited a point on the back of their improved second-half performance.

"In the first-half we didn't really play well, it was because of Stoke. Stoke changed their tactics, they played very well in the first-half, in the second-half we played much better.


"They are a very good team, their position in the table doesn't reflect the players that they have, they are a very good team and today they played the same way in order to stop us.


"We had a very, verystrong team in front of us, but in the second-half we deserved much more and the way we played in the second-half we deserved at least a draw."

Watford were somewhat frail throughout the game, picking up yellow cards for dissent, while Mazzarri seemed to head towards the changing rooms after the match without shaking Stoke managerMark Hughes' hand.


Watford were disappointing throughout large periods of the game, with long range efforts from Daryl Janmaat and Etienne Capoue the only shots on target for the Hertfordshire club.


Mazzarri's side lost Younes Kaboul early on thanks to injury, while Miguel Brito's late red card has ruled him out of the Hornets' trip to West Brom.
