Watford News: Silva hails Zeeogelaar debut; Doucoure praises goalscorer Hughes

Watford boss Marco Silva was pleased with Marvin Zeegelaar's debut in victory over West Ham.

Zeegelaar was left clutching his face in his first challenge after clashing with Andy Carroll, but would go onto to create the assist for Will Hughes' goal.

"Zeegelaar was very good," Silva admitted. "It was good for me to see and enjoy on his debut.

"I know him very well, he needs to keep adapting to a different country and culture - the Premier League is different - but he knows our philosophy very well now and how we want to play.

"It's football: when you have the chance you have to show what you can do. It's not a surprise to see the answer he gave because I feel it was a good moment for him to make his debut."

Silva was keen not to put any blame on Carroll for the clash with Zeegelaar, although his remark about how the Dutchman looked said it all.

"I haven't seen the incident. From the bench it looked like a hard duel, but everyone knows Carroll is a strong player in that moment," he said.

"I can't talk more about the situation, but I can see how Marvin looked."

Meanwhile, Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure was delighted for goalscorer Hughes.

There's high hopes inside English football around the the midfielder and Doucoure says the youngster is getting stronger by the week.

He said: “Will had a difficult start because he didn't play, but he deserved today because he has worked a lot on the training pitch.

“Today he showed his class and was a very good player and I love to play with him. I hope he can help the team again.

“He did not play in the beginning and today he played very well. He played well at Everton as well and he is a good guy so I am happy for him and happy he scored today."
