The Brazilian youngster was hauled off by new boss, Javi Gracia, with the Hornets leading the reigning champions 1-0.

And television cameras focused on a tearful Richarlison sitting on the home bench after he was replaced by Roberto Pereyra in the second half of the game.

It was unclear at the time why the 20-year-old was sobbing, but he later explained the reason.

He told ESPN Brazil: "I was crying because I wanted to play and help by team-mate, but in the end the guy that entered the pitch did the job well so it's all okay."
