Watford striker Troy Deeney has been charged with violent conduct.

Deeney faces a three-match ban for gouging Joe Allen's cheek with his thumb.

Watford skipper Deeney was booked by referee Michael Oliver for his stoppage-time skirmish with the Wales midfielder in the Hornets' 1-0 defeat by Stoke.

But he faces retrospective action from the Football Association, who have charged him after reviewing the flashpoint today.

Allen laughed off Deeney gouging his cheek in the battle of claw and order at Vicarage Road, admitting: “I have a bad habit of picking the wrong fights."
