Wayne Rooney Revealed to Have Suffered Knee Injury After Slipping Over Bottle in Changing Room

England captain Wayne Rooney incurred his knee injury after slipping over a bottle in a changing room, according tothe Times.

The 31-year-old has not been blamed for the incident, nor for his conduct in the changing room, and the reasoning behind his exit from the England camp is believed to be solely for his injury, not for his drinking episode after England's game against Scotland.

Despite England confirming Rooney had been sent home thanks to an injury, some have claimed interim manager Gareth Southgate sent him back to Manchester United as a punishment for his conduct.

The Sunhad reported United skipper Rooney had crashed a wedding party in a hotel bar, with one witness claiming:He was really s***-faced.

He was not a pretty sight by the time he left around 1am.

The injury is the latest setback in what has been a disappointing campaign so far for the forward. Having only scored one Premier League goal so far this season, Rooney has been dropped recently by both club and country, leaving his future role in both setupsto be fiercely debated.

His form has been called into question over the past few years, with his positional switch into midfield dividing the opinions of football fans. Rooney scored eight Premier League goals in 28 appearances last season, with his reduced goal tally partly due to his new role in midfield.

United manager Jose Mourinho, who was reportedly unhappy with the FA for allowing Rooney to drink after the Scotland game, is expected to confirm whether Rooney will be available for the game against Arsenal on Saturday.
