Ghana coach Chris Hughton says his outfit are relieved after Inaki Williams ended his goal drought in the national team against Madagascar.

Inaki Williams, who plays for Athletic Club, secured a late victory for the Black Stars, ending an 11-game goal drought for Ghana in the opening 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

He switched allegiance to Ghana in June 2022 and had to wait until last Friday before netting his first goal for the national team. The win marked a crucial moment for Williams, who had faced discussions about his goal-scoring form.

Speaking to DSTV, the former Premier League highlighted how relieved the entire are following Inaki Williams debut goal for the Black Stars.

“We are relieved as a team. It was a wonderful cross from Gideon and Inaki at the right place scored. He obviously had one goal disallowed which was his moment until such glorious moment. I think it will do wonders for him because I think when you are a striker and you still waiting for first goal sometimes it can be a bit frustrating. Inaki is one that always continue to work for the team so really pleased for him” he said.

The Black Stars will aim to build on their opening win and secure another positive result against Comoros as they continue their journey in the World Cup qualifiers.
