A Member of Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth and Sports, Kobena Mensah Woyome has explained the reason behind the reason for inviting Andre Ayew to Parliament after Ghana's poor performance at the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON].

On Monday, February 14, reports emerged that the Parliament Select Committee has requested that Ghana Football Association [GFA] officials together with Andre Ayew should appear before Parliament to account to what led to the Black Stars' poor performance at the just-ended 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Cameroon.

Ghana who were chasing their fifth continental title were bundled out of the tournament from the group phase.

The Black Stars suffered a defeat against Morocco in their group opener. In their second group game, Ghana were held to a 1-1 draw against Gabon.

In their final group game, Ghana suffered a 3-2 defeat to debutants, Comoros to exit the tournament with just a point after three matches.

The abysmal and disappointing performance led to the sacking of Milovan Rajevac who signed a one-year renewable contract in September 2021.

And in an interview with TV3 News, Ranking Member Kobena Mensah Woyome said they want to make sure that the cause of problems that resulted in the poor showing at the tournament in Cameroon is rooted out.

The South Tongu Member of Parliament, however, hinted that due to the busy schedule of Andre Ayew, the Committee is aware he may not be physically available but they will make sure he represents the players to give their side of incidents in Cameroon.

He also assured the nation that this is being done to make sure that the team is fortified ahead of the 2022 World Cup play-off with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
