We must be smart enough not to approach Uruguay game with a revenge mindset – Ghana captain Andre Ayew insists

Ghana captain, Andre Ayew has opened up on how as a leader he wants the Black Stars to approach the game against Uruguay at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The West African country will at this year’s mundial face off with the North American outfit in Group H.

Due to the loss to Uruguay at the 2010 world cup, there have been talks that Ghana should go in for revenge.

For Andre Ayew, that will not be a smart move. According to him, the Black Stars should only aim for the three points.

“As a team leader, I don’t believe we should view this game as revenge.

“Instead, we must be smart enough to recognise that it is a match we need points from. We just want to win against Uruguay after everything that has been said in the media,” Andre Ayew said in an interview.

The Qatar-based forward continued, “As a player, if you go into a game with the intent of retaliation, you can make a lot of mistakes and be hyper.

“We just need to stay calm, follow the plan, and try to win the game, or do whatever we can to advance to the next stage.”

Besides Uruguay, Ghana is in Group H alongside Portugal and South Korea.
