We will submit names of our new board when lockdown is lifted - Kotoko to GFA

Ghana Premier League giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko has informed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) that it will submit names of its board once the lockdown directive is revoked by the government.

The Kumasi-based club was given up to April 3, 2020, to submit the names or face punishment in accordance with the regulations of the country's football governing body.

In a later from Manhyia Palace dated April 1, 2020, Kotoko has defended their failure to meet the deadline by explaining that the office that will constitute the board is not functioning now due to the Coronavirus.

A statement from Manhyia Palace signed by Mr. Kofi Badu who is the chief of staff said: “I am directed to inform you that His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, in his capacity as the sole shareholder of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, is in the process of appointing a new Board of Directors for the club.

“However, the process has been interrupted by the imposition of the National Coronavirus emergency as a result of which the secretariat of the Palace has been closed for two weeks".

It added, “I am to inform you that as the emergency permits the resumption of work, the process will be concluded and the names of the new board would be submitted to you without delay.”
