West Brom Manager Tony Pulis Laments 'Deja Vu' Feeling After Narrow Defeat to Arsenal

Published on: 26 December 2016

West Brom manager Tony Pulis admitted his side's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal had an element of 'deja vu' about it, as the Baggies' slipped to their third loss in four league games on Monday afternoon.

It had appeared that a solid defensive play, along with some fine saves madeby goalkeeper Ben Foster, was enough to help Pulis' side to a 0-0 draw and much needed point.

However, the visitorswere dealt a cruel blow when Olivier Giroud headed home with just four minutes remaining and meant that their brave rearguard action proved in vein.

Speaking after the match, the Baggies' manager admitted that the last minutedefeat was all too familiar to his team, after they were also beaten by a late Diego Costa goal against Chelsea two weeks ago.

And although he was happy with the players' effort, Pulis conceded that the lapse in concentration at the end of the match was what cost his side a share of the spoils.

The 58-year-old toldSky Sports:"That's a little bit deja vu with the Chelsea game.

"We've worked very hard within a system. I'm desperately disappointed for supporters who have travelled but when you've got top teams and top players that's what happens.

"I don't think you can ever switch off and it's been proven against these two teams we've just played.

"You have to concentrate for as long as it takes because the top teams win so many games in the last 10 minutes. Sometimes you get tired because they are relentless in the way they play.

"Gareth's got pinned by Giroud, and you can't allow him to do that, because he's such a strong player and he's excellent in the air. We've no complaints with that."
