The Irons sold Payet to Marseille in January.

Sullivan told talkSPORT: "We knew Dimitri was flawed, that's why we got him for £10.5m, we knew we bought a flawed individual, Sullivan said.

"We knew he could go on strike. It's why he never reached his full potential.

"He was a fantastic servant for the club. We didn't want to sell him but we got two and a half times what we paid for him.

"We had meeting after meeting, he wanted out, the manager wanted him out. i would have made him stick it out for six months but the manager said he was upsetting the club."
