West Ham Star Dimitri Payet Hints at Possible Return to Marseille Following Abject Start to Season

Published on: 18 December 2016

West Ham talisman Dimitri Payet has hinted at a potential exit after claiming that he 'wouldn't close the door to anything', while speaking about a return toformer club Marseille.

Despite being West Ham's best player this season, Payet has struggled to recapture his form from last season, scoring just twice in 14 leaguegames.

His form, coupled with West Ham'sdire start to theseason, has seen discussion over a potential January exit, with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal reportedly keen.

Supporters began to question his commitment after he played with his head down, seemingly uninterested, against Manchester United in the league-cup.

Speaking withSFR Sport, the 29-year-old said:"I am not closing the door to anything. Marseille have a new project which seems interesting. Aside from that, we are obviously waiting to see the first few things that the new owners do, but Marseille knows how attached I am to the club.

"When I talk about it, I say the best possible things, because that is what I think, so why not."

Previously, both West Ham manager Slaven Bilic and owner David Sullivan issued a hands-off warning in regards to Payet, but ultimately it is the player's choice and if West Ham continue to perform badly this season, we could well see the France international move back to Ligue 1.
