West Ham wanted the goals in the first half to control the game - Mohammed Kudus

Ghana star Mohammed Kudus has opened up about West Ham United’s comeback win over Backa Topola in their UEFA Europa League opener.

The Ghana international scored the winning goal and was involved in the equaliser earlier which was ultimately awarded as an own goal.

Tomas Soucek added the third after 70 minutes to complete the comeback at the London Stadium on Thursday night.

Speaking after the game, the 23-year-old gave a succinct assessment of what the Hammers did to secure the win in their first group stage game.

“We wanted the goals in the first half so that we can control the game but we didn’t have any,” Kudus said.

“We went down but the winning mentality from the guys was good. We kept doing what the coach taught us and the results came afterward.

Asked about what the message from David Moyes was in the first half team tal, Kudus said: “The final quality you know we dominated the game but we were not able to score. We knew had to improve the final quality in the second half, hopefully, we had it.”
