Wilder welcomes Freeman addition

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is confident that he has made a good addition to his squad by completing the signing of Luke Freeman from Queens Park Rangers.

The 27-year-old joins the Blades on a three-year contract for a club record fee, becoming the first new recruit at Bramall Lane since the club secured a return to the Premier League.

Luke is ideal to complement what we already have at the club, I think he will be a good fit for us.

Freeman had been at Loftus Road since January 2017, scoring 15 goals in 112 appearances in all competitions for the R's.

He had previously enjoyed spells with Bristol City, Stevenage and Yeovil Town (loan), having started his career with Gillingham before being snapped up by Arsenal - although he was unable to make a first-team breakthrough with the Gunners.

Blades manager Wilder told his club's official website: "Luke gives us balance off his left foot. His stats add up and all the eyes we've had on him have come back with glowing reports.

"He's one of the best players in the Championship and he can play in a number of positions. Luke is ideal to complement what we already have at the club, I think he will be a good fit for us."

Freeman himself added: "It's been ongoing over the last few weeks. It was something that I was very keen to pursue and I am really looking forward to the challenge ahead."

United, back in the top-flight for the first time since 2007, are 4/6 to be relegated and 5/2 to finish bottom of the table, with the Blades 6/5 to avoid the drop.
