Winning Ghana Premier League not immediate priority for Accra Lions - Head Coach

Published on: 20 April 2023

Accra Lions FC head coach James Francis has stated that the team is not obsessed with winning the Ghana Premier League title this season.

Despite a promising start to the season, the team has lost their last three matches, which has pushed them out of the top four in the league standings.

Speaking to 3Sports, Francis emphasized the importance of taking each game as it comes, stating, "We prepare for the next game.

"I will say every team in the Ghana Premier League can beat each other so we just have to concentrate on the next game, get a positive result, and see where we are at the end of the season."

Accra Lions is renowned as one of the best development clubs in the Ghana Premier League, and the team has a long-term strategy of focusing on player development.

With only eight matches left in the season, the team is currently seven points behind the top four and nine points behind league leaders Aduana FC.

Despite the gap in points, Francis and his team are not giving up on their goal of staying in the league and developing their players. Their next match is against Medeama SC on match week 27, where they will be looking to end their five-game winless streak.
