World Cup 2022: Ambition now for African teams is getting to the final - Ex-Nigeria coach Oliseh

Former Nigeria head coach Sunday Oliseh has disclosed that the target for African teams at the World Cup is to reach the final following Morocco's remarkable run at this year's event.

The Atlas Lios became the first African side to reach the semi-finals of the global showpiece after beating Portugal 1-0 in the quarter-finals.

However, their run ended with a 2-0 defeat to the holders France on Wednesday.

"The essence of having records is to push people to break them," Oliseh told BBC Sport Africa.

"So if your record has only been the quarter-final, the aim will be to get to the semi-final. The new ambition is now no longer just the semi-final, the ambition now is getting to the final."

On Morocc's performance against France, he added, "It was a great performance."

"Bowing out the way they did was great because they were not dominated. On the contrary, they had chances to score. They worked hard and for me it has been a great tournament and something exceptional for the African continent."
