World Cup 2022: Black Stars can cause surprises – Andre Ayew

Published on: 07 November 2022

Ghana captain Andre Ayew believes the Black Stars can be a surprise package at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Black Stars is returning to the global showpiece after missing out in Russia 2018, where France emerged as winners.

Despite being the lowest-ranked (61st) of the 32 teams ahead of the mundial, the AL Sadd star believes Ghana can cause surprises with a full squad devoid of injuries.

"I believe in the players that we have, I believe in the squad we have, especially if everyone will be there and there are no injuries and we have a full squad. I think we can create surprises, but it's only on that grass that will speak. But we have to accept and respect the fact that we are not favourites," said Andre Ayew, team captain.

Ghana has been housed in Group H at the mundial against Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.

The Black Stars will open their World Cup account against Portugal on November 24 before taking on Uruguay and South Korea respectively.

The biggest soccer mundial has been scheduled for November and December this year, with 32 countries set to battle it out for the covetous trophy in Qatar.
