Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has apologized to Uruguayans after suffering early exit from the World Cup despite Ghana win.

Nunez started when the two-time World Cup winners inflicted a 2-0 win over Ghana at the Al Janoub Stadium last Friday.

He was instrumental as La Celeste defeated Ghana in their final group game at the mundial.

Despite the win, the South American giants were unable to progress from the group stage as Portugal and South Korea advance to the knockout stage.

"We didn't deserve this ending but the dream ended, Sorry to all the Uruguayan people," wrote Nunez on social media.

The former Benfica player failed to score at the tournament despite his prolific form for the Reds.

Giorgian de Arrasteca scored a brace as Uruguay beat Ghana last Friday at Al Janoub.
