France have set up a date with Morocco in the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament.

The defending World Champions on Saturday, December 10, locked horns with the Three Lions of England in the final quarter-final match of the tournament being held in Qatar.

In the closely-contested encounter, Real Madrid youngster Aurélien Tchouaméni put France in lead after just 17 minutes when he scored with a fantastic strike.

While there could have been more goals before the end of the first half, missed chances meant that both sides went into the break with just a goal in the game.

After recess, England pushed and fought to get back into the game. Fortunately, for the Three Lions, poster boy and captain of the side, Harry Kane scored from the spot in the 54th minute to restore parity to the game.

In the pulsating end to the game, France’s all-time leading goal-scorer Olivier Giroud came to the party and scored the winner to give his side a 2-1 victory at the end of the 90 minutes.

Having progressed to the semi-finals, France will take on Africa’s only remaining rep in the tournament, Morocco.

Meanwhile, the other semi-final match will be between Argentina and Croatia.
