World Cup 2022: GFA president Kurt Okraku insists Ghana is in Qatar to be very competitive

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku has assured that the Black Stars will fight to compete very well with any team it will face at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The GFA president on Wednesday received the President of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe when he visited the Black Stars ahead of the first game of the ongoing mundial in Qatar.

Speaking during the interactions, GFA president Kurt Okraku pledged support for the vision of the CAF president.

"I think we can't ask for more for the father of football on the African continent to pay us a visit is something that clearly inspire not only the players, not only the technical team but my good self.

"It tells you that the leadership of the Confederation of African football are very much interested in whatever is happening in the Member Associations and Ghana being one of the five that are representing the African continent, obviously we should be extremely happy that the leadership are here with us and I am very grateful for all the good work and hard work that the President is leading, his vision is very, very clear.

"He wants the good of the African game and I support the vision clearly and we intend to follow the vision to the best of our ability,” Kurt Okraku said as quoted on the website of the GFA.

The Ghana FA president further assured that while in Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Black Stars will be very competitive.

"Africa is here to compete and I can tell you for a fact that Ghana will be very, very competitive and I believe that already the other sister Member Associations have shown that Africa do not lack quality,” Mr. Okraku indicated.

Ghana will be in action for the first time later this evening when the Black Stars take on their counterpart from Portugal.

That game will kick off at 16:00GMT.
