World Cup 2022: Ghana coach Otto Addo convinced African side will reach semis

Published on: 23 November 2022

Ghana, coach Otto Addo, says he remains optimistic an African side will reach the semi-finals at the 2022 World Cup for the first time.

Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, and Cameroon are representing Africa in the 22nd edition of the Mundial in Qatar.

In the past, only Ghana, Senegal, and Cameroon have come close to breaking Africa's semi-final jinx.

Senegal opened their campaign with a 2-0 defeat against the Netherlands while Tunisia held Denmark to a 0-0 game.

With Morocco, Ghana, and Cameroon yet to play, Addo, 47 believes Africa can play in the semis.

"If possible. We have some good teams like Ghana, Morocco, and Tunisia representing the continent, not to mention Senegal who won the last Africa Cup with great strength and fantastic individualities.

"Africa has a chance to carve out a place in the semi-finals this time," he told AS.

Ghana will take on Portugal in their Group H opener on Thursday at the 974 Stadium before playing South Korea and Uruguay.

The Black Stars will be hoping to better their performance after exiting the group phase in 2014 in Brazil. They also failed to qualify for the last edition hosted in Russia.
